3 Reasons God Wants You to Say His Name

Did you know there’s a place where the devil can’t touch you?

The Bible says that there will always be trouble here on earth (John 16:33); however, the Bible also says that we are in Christ Jesus. Therefore, we don’t need to participate in trouble that comes our way. It tells us that when we learn how to use His Name, we find refuge, strength and protection.

3 Reasons God Wants You to Say His Name

On a recent BVOV broadcast, Kenneth Copeland welcomed guest Dr. Melvin G. Barney, Esq., a pastor from Sacramento, Calif. They discussed Dr. Barney’s book, Say My Name, and why God wants us to use His Name to usher THE BLESSING into our lives.

If you’re ready to grab hold of THE BLESSING, learn these 3 Reasons God Wants You To Say His Name.

  1. His Name Is Your Seed

“Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth’; and it was so.” –Genesis 1:11 (NKJV)

What would you like to plant today? Is it prosperity or debt cancellation? How about healing and wholeness? Whatever you need, the Name of God will produce; however, we must understand the principles of sowing and reaping His Name. You see, whether it’s plants, animals or humans, everything comes from a seed. Even business ideas are a seed, and absolutely every seed has the power within it to reproduce itself.

We sow and reap our harvests like we would fruit and vegetables in a garden. Dr. Barney gives the example of his grandmother’s garden. When he was growing up, his grandmother had a beautiful, lush garden full of fruits and vegetables. This garden was so vast that anytime his grandmother wanted a certain vegetable or fruit, she would just walk out to the garden and take it. His grandmother always had a wonderful harvest to choose from.

Now, Dr. Barney’s grandmother didn’t just wander through her garden every day, throwing different seeds around and “hope for the best.” She meticulously planted the seed of whatever she wanted to harvest. She didn’t plant apple seeds hoping for lettuce. She planted apple seeds to harvest a large apple tree, and lettuce seeds to harvest beautiful, green lettuce.

It’s the same principle with sowing the Name of the Lord. Jesus says the sower sows the Word (Mark 4:14). In Luke, Jesus says the seed is God’s Word (Luke 8:11-15). It’s a Kingdom principle to sow and reap a harvest.

Dr. Barney states that there is another part of this Kingdom principle that has been overlooked. He says, “The principle of sowing and reaping applies even to the Name of the Lord. When you open your mouth to speak His Name, you use the power of God to manifest the promises that Name stands for: healing, peace, comfort, guidance. Speak His Name. Sow His Name as seed to see goodness grow in your life.”

Wait a second—it’s that simple? Yes! Just like planting seeds in a garden, we can plant the different Names of God. The way you sow spiritual seed is by saying that Name out loud.

Do you need healing? Speak the name of Jehovah Rapha. It’s the Hebrew Name of God our Healer.

Do you need provision? Speak the name of Jehovah Jireh, God’s Name of provision.

Speak the Name of God for whatever you need, and that holy, distinct and powerful Name will produce your harvest. God will be whatever you need Him to be, but you must first take action and plant His Name as a seed. God’s promises will provide, but you must first speak the specific Name for what you need and expect that spiritual harvest.

Be bold about it. God chose us, and as we are in Him, we are to bear fruit (John 15:16). Speak His Name out loud, and expect it to produce the fruit you want!

  1. You Are Jesus’ Power of Attorney

“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” –Exodus 20:7 (NKJV)

This third commandment is key to our understanding the authority Jesus gave us. He gave us His power of attorney. To help us understand this, Kenneth Copeland often tells a story about the famous preacher Charles Spurgeon. Mr. Spurgeon was asked to visit an elderly woman who was dying. As he entered her impoverished home, he noticed a framed document on the wall. Asking her if she knew what it said, she told him she did not. She explained that she was once a first mate for the Queen of England. When the old woman retired, the Queen gave her the document. She thought it was nice, so she hung it on her wall. She then asked Mr. Spurgeon, “I never learned to read…do you know what it says?”

Spurgeon was shocked. This elderly woman had no idea what was in her possession. The queen had given her retiring first mate a stipend of retirement for life. This elderly woman could live at any expense, with no limits on her spending. The woman had been living in squalor for years, yet she could have bought a beautiful, new home, and had the best of everything—and the queen would have happily paid for it.

As a believer, do you know what’s in your possession?

Just like the elderly woman didn’t know the power of that document, many of us don’t understand the power we have in the Name of the Lord. Jesus happily paid the price for us to receive His BLESSING in our life. Now it’s up to us to use it!

Before we use His Name, we first need to understand how to carry His Name.

As Exodus 20:7 reads, we are not to take the Lord’s Name in vain, but what if this third commandment doesn’t mean what we think it does?

In Hebrew, take means “to carry or bear.” In vain means “worthlessly, to no avail.”
This third commandment is telling us that we should not carry His name in a worthless manner.

Imagine the Levites carrying the Ten Commandments in the 200-pound Ark of the Covenant with them everywhere they went. They were nomads, wandering from camp to camp, yet they cared for and moved the Ark across the desert. It was a valued possession of their tribe.

Just as the Levites carried the Ark, we are to carry the Name of the Lord with us everywhere we go. He is the most valued and powerful part of us. He is the Name that is above all other names (Philippians 2:9-10). His Name is a strong tower, a place to where the righteous run (Proverbs 18:10).

And Jesus, as God made flesh, walked in great works while He was here. After His death, He gave us His power of attorney to use His Name and carry out His works on this earth.

A power of attorney is a legally binding document to act on someone else’s behalf. Dr. Barney gives the example of a wealthy friend who has given you the power of attorney to act on his behalf. When you go to the bank, you are your friend’s representative. With your power of attorney in hand, the bank is required by law to do business with you on your friend’s behalf. The bank must honour your requests.

Now if you waltz into the bank, keep the power of attorney in your back pocket, and don’t bother to show it to the teller and demand a withdrawal, that teller will probably call the police. Your wealthy friend probably wouldn’t be too happy, would he? He is depending on you to be his representative. He has given you the power to carry out his business.

Jesus has also given you His power of attorney. He is looking for you to act on His behalf and to carry out His business on earth until He comes. But if you’re not using His Name, you are using His Name in vain. You’re not using the power of attorney He gave you (John 16:23).

God wants us to have the results He promises in His Word. That’s His law, and those are His covenants. Using His Name to execute those covenants on earth brings the devil into subjection and causes us to walk in victory just like Jesus walked!

  1. God Wants You to Make Demands on His Name

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth.” –Philippians 2:9-10 (NKJV)

What if you showed your power of attorney at a bank and the teller refused to honour it? You have a legally binding document in your hand, and your friend is depending on you. What would you do?

You would demand to speak with the bank manager, wouldn’t you? You would demand that the bank take your request seriously.

That’s what we have to do with the devil. Making demands is not demanding of God. It’s demanding Satan to submit to the Name of the Lord. Jesus gave you the power to do His will, and you are to use that power. You must demand that the devil subject himself to the all-powerful Name of the Lord! You have the power of attorney from Jesus. YOU have the power to act on his behalf!

God wants you to use His Name to manifest what He’s already promised you in the Word. God anointed Jesus Christ with the Holy Ghost and power to do His work on this earth. And through Jesus, we now have the power of attorney to use His Name (Acts 4:31Revelation 1:4-8).

Like a skilled carpenter would use the different tools in his tool set to accomplish his work, so we must learn to use the different Names of God to accomplish the work He wants us to do. We use His Name as a tool to get the results we desire. We become skilled at using the different Names of God to produce good and miracle-working fruit in our lives.

As Kenneth Copeland says, the key to understanding the different Names of God and how to use them is to “take time to meditate on His Name. It’s not just any name…Build faith in THE Name.”

There are many Names of God that will produce wonderful fruit in our lives if we take the time to meditate on them. This will bring about understanding and knowledge on how to plant His Names and execute His power of attorney. As we continually build our skill and knowledge, we will learn which Name to apply to all the situations we encounter.

God is waiting for you to grab hold of your BLESSINGS! These 3 Reasons God Wants You To Say His Name will help you speak the will of God and speak confidently in the Name of the Lord. His Name, His seed will produce a harvest. Declare it. Expect it. Praise Him for it. Great harvests are coming to you!
