3 Steps to Receiving Your Inheritance

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” Romans 8:16-17 NKJV

How would you respond if you found out that someone had left you an inheritance in their will? One of the first things you would need to do is find out what you have been left, right! Well, God our Father has made us a joint-heir with Jesus when we became born-again and according to Peter 1:2-4, our inheritance is “incorruptible and undefiled and does not fade away, reserved in heaven.”

3 Steps to Receiving Your Inheritance

Praise God, there is no time limit on it making a claim on your inheritance and there is no risk of it disappearing!

This is the good news of the Gospel – Not only have we been delivered from everything that is under the curse (Deuteronomy 28:16-68) but we have also been given everything that Jesus has too!

Let’s look at three keys to claim your joint inheritance in Christ.

1. Find out who you are related to.

“I became heir to a fortune… when I gave my life to Jesus.” — Gloria Copeland

When you made Jesus Lord of your life, you became a part of the family of God. That’s not all, you also became an heir, just like Jesus.

An heir is someone who receives an inheritance by right of birth. Therefore, being an heir with Jesus means that everything that Jesus paid for as a result of His death and resurrection has been made available to you. You have a new spiritual lineage that is built on Faith. Your ancestors can be found in the Bible and are some of the greatest men and women who ever walked the earth! You are now part of THE Royal Family. Hebrews, chapter 11, is a great place to find out how your spiritual relatives walked by Faith. For it is by Faith that they received the promises (the inheritance) of God.

Galatians 4:7 (NKJV) “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons”

2. Don’t miss the reading of the will!

“We have to get into the reading of The Will and find out what belongs to us – and receive it!” — Gloria Copeland

God’s will is His Word. The Word of God is THE title deed to our inheritance. When we read, meditate, believe and confess The Word we are accessing our inheritance by Faith. The inheritance we have in Christ is rich and glorious because it is everything that he intended us to have and keep from the beginning of time, when God created Man.

When you read God’s will, The Old and New Testaments you will find out about the benefits of THE Blessing and the authority and power that has been given to us by Jesus. He said in Luke 12:3, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

The Bible is your book of your inheritance or The Will. Reading the Bible is the only way to start receiving the inheritance you have. After all, you can’t make a claim on something if you don’t know what you’re asking for! Have a look at your adoption papers in Ephesians 1:3-5 : “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will..”

3. Receive what you’ve inherited!

The benefits of The Will belong to the family – and I’m in the family! — Gloria Copeland

As an heir, we can go to the Word of God and find out what we have inherited. Psalm 103:2-5 states, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

The key to accessing all of our inheritance is Faith. Have you ever heard stories about people who lived in poverty and despair all their lives, because they didn’t know who they were related to?

Well, that’s what happens when you do not find out what the Word says and stand on those promises by faith. Hebrews 11 states that “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”. When you believe what God says about you are and understand who you are, you are receiving your inheritance.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen”. Philippians 4:19-20 NKJV

These are not imaginary riches or riches that are not accessible to you! They are accessed in the exact way that you became born again. You heard The Word, you believed The Word and you confessed The Word, receiving that Jesus Is Lord!

Remember, Faith is always” Now”, so go ahead and claim your inheritance today. Take hold of what Jesus has secured for you by finding out what His Word says and acting on it. Speak His Word boldly over your life and take your place in THE Royal family of God.
