Psalm 23 – The Lord is My Shepherd; I Shall Not Want!

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. (Psalm 23, KJV)The Lord is My Shepherd

Have you taken the time to truly take hold of this promise from God?  Say it out loud… “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”  And again….”The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

How does that make you feel?  Good right?

One of the dictionary definitions of the word ‘want’ is to ‘lack something desirable or essential’ or ‘a lack or deficiency of something.’   And here is this huge promise in the Word of God, telling us that when the Lord is our shepherd, WE SHALL NOT WANT!  Glory to God!

While the world around us is reporting lack, fear and sickness, we are living in the flock of the Almighty Shepherd Himself – JESUS.  HE is looking after us, feeding us, protecting us, making sure we LACK NOTHING!  Hallelujah!

We should never be focused on the news of the world, but only on the Good News of the gospel.  Our God is a God of overflow.  This is the time to put the law of abundance to work in our lives, not a time to limit Him.

Let’s read the full Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside the still waters.

He restores my soul;

He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

My cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The great God that created this universe loves you. He has promised that goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life!

Just think about that for a moment.

How Do I Apply Psalm 23 to My Life?

It’s easy to do.

God’s success formula begins with keeping His Word in your mouth. Talk God’s Word.

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34). The mouth speaks according to what you put in your heart. “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things…” (Matthew 12:35). Put God’s Word in your heart and you will speak God’s Word with your mouth. God’s Word in your mouth will cause good things to happen in your life.

You put God’s Word in your heart by meditation in His Word. You do not change believing in your heart by just wanting to change it. You only change how you believe by the Word of God.

By meditating in the Word, you are applying that Word to yourself personally. You are allowing the Holy Spirit to make God’s Word a reality in your heart.

Take the time to thank God for His goodness and mercy in your life.  Thank Him that He is your shepherd and that you will never want for anything.

Be blessed as you listen to Brother Copeland and Professor Greg Stephens speaking about the goodness of God.
