Living In The Father’s Love

“But God—so rich is He in His mercy!
Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us, even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him…].”
Ephesians 2:4-5 (Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

Living in the Father's Love

I am overwhelmed today with this “great and wonderful and intense love” with which the Father loves us! He was reaching out to us with His love long before we were reaching out to Him. First John 4:10 says, “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (New Living Translation). He saw us before the foundation of the world and wanted us to experience what Ephesians 3:18 calls, “the breadth and length, and depth, and height” of God’s love.

Consider all the ways God loves us. He takes care of and protects us. He watches over and heals us. He prospers us, and blesses us exceeding abundantly above all we could ever ask or think. He is such a wonderful and compassionate Savior, and His love for you is everlasting. He is Love, and wants you to know the vastness of His love toward you. Open your heart to His goodness, kindness and mercy. Pastor Terri and I are so grateful for your presence at EMIC where we can learn together the greatness of God’s mighty love for us all!

Many years ago, I was struggling in my relationship with the Father. I had been working in the ministry a long time, and even though I was about my Father’s business, I had lost touch with Him. It is very easy to do that—even while working for a ministry. You can get so busy with day-to-day activities that your relationship with the Father begins to suffer. I had crossed over into a “performance mentality” with Him. It seemed that His acceptance of me had become based on how hard I was working for Him. I thought the harder I worked for Him, the more He would love me.

I recognized what was going on and asked Him for His help.

The next morning, I was preparing to get up and get ready for the day’s activities. Before rising, The LORD spoke to my heart: I want you to stay in bed and spend the next hour simply meditating on how much I love you. I propped up the pillows, started the assignment and then I began saying, “My Father loves me. My Father loves me.” I allowed these words to wash over me again and again. The more I received the Father’s love, the more real His love became. At the end of the hour-long assignment, The LORD spoke a very clear and distinct word to me that changed my life forever:

There is nothing more you can do
to make Me love you any more
than I love you right now.

The LORD gave me a scripture to back up what He had just said. Deuteronomy 7:7-8 revealed, “The LORD did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations! Rather, it was simply that The LORD loves you… (NLT).”

In other words, The LORD was telling me He loved me simply because He loved me! A transformation took place in my heart that morning, and the reality of His love has been growing in me ever since. With each passing day, I am experiencing fresh demonstrations of His “great and wonderful and intense love.”

Take time today to meditate on how much your Father loves you. Simply say to yourself: “My Father loves me. My Father loves me.” Then, allow Him to reveal scriptures to you about His love. The results will be amazing. You will be, and continue being transformed, just as I was!

I preached about this encounter with The LORD a few years ago. The congregation gladly received the message and embraced the Father’s love. At the end of the sermon, I gave an utterance in tongues. The interpretation was precious:

If you knew the full extent of My love for you,
your life would be totally transformed.
You would have everything you would ever need.
You would walk in the fullness of all that I have for you.
