Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” [2] And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. Revelation 4:1-2 NLT
What does it mean to come up higher? Well, when you go to a physically higher place, you are guaranteed a clear viewpoint and the ability to see into the distance. There are advantages to being in a higher position, right?
Imagine living with that advantage every day. If you lived in a penthouse, not only do you receive exclusive benefits but you have the best view! You may be asking, what has a penthouse got to do with coming up higher in Jesus? Well, Jesus has given us the keys to staying in the higher place of advantage.
Dwelling in the Secret Place of the Most High
Psalm 91:1 declares that “He who dwells in the secret place of the most high, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” Did you notice how the dwelling has a corresponding action attached to it? “I will say of the Lord he is my refuge and my fortress my God, in him I will trust” 91:2 Saying or confessing The Word is our spiritual key to the coming up higher. It’s like taking the elevator to your Penthouse instead of using the stairs every day!
The good news about our covenant is that God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to show us how to come up! The act of hearing, believing, receiving and confessing the Word of God activates the benefits and keeps us in the secret place of the Most High. Jesus made this promise, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” – John 14:3.
When we meditate on God’s Word we are opening our eyes to receive revelation knowledge from Him. I like to think of it as opening the blinds or curtains to the penthouse, to receive all that Jesus has provided for us. In Him there is increase, favour, promotion, protection, victory, insight, provision, vision – and so much more! Praise God, there are always advantages to being in a higher place with Jesus.
