Our Right to Use His Name

“I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it”. – John 14:13-14, Modern English Translation

God appointed Jesus to be heir of all things (Hebrews 1:2) and made Him so much better than the angels. Hebrews 1:4 says, “He was made so much better than the angels as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.” Why? Because Jesus, the second person of the Godhead-God the Son-is The WORD made flesh (John 1:14). He was in the beginning with God (verse 2). All things were made by Him (verse 3), and He is before all things. By Him all things consist, or hold together (Colossians 1:17). He emptied Himself of His heavenly privileges (Philippians 2:5-7), allowing Himself to be clothed in flesh and born into a human body in Bethlehem to a young Jewish virgin girl (Isaiah 7:14; John 1:14). He came as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29) all God and all man.

Jesus came to pay the price for Adam’s treason in the Garden of Eden, the perfect and final sacrifice of the old covenant, put on the altar of the cross by the Aaronic priesthood. He was made to be sin for us and was dragged into the regions of the damned, taken there illegally by the devil and his demons who fell into the trap of the ages (1 Corinthians 2:8; Colossians 1:27). He annihilated the devil and all his cohorts, making a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it, and took the keys of death and hell (Colossians 2:15; Revelation 1:18). He was raised from the dead by the Father and is now seated at the Father’s right hand, far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, both in heaven and in earth. And He has given us His Name and the power of attorney to use it to cast out devils, raise the dead, and heal the sick and to do even greater works than He did (John 14:12).

The Name of Jesus can do anything He can do. Faith in the Name is faith in Him. When you speak His Name, you have just thrown the sum total of the Old and New Covenants into the face of satan – the whole WORD of God in one mighty Name that makes devils tremble and shakes the gates of hell (James 2:19). Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”.

In the Name of Jesus every believer becomes lord and master of all principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and wicked spirits in heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). They must bow to the Name of Jesus in us because He dwells in us, and we in Him (Luke 10:19; John 17:23; Romans 14:10). Besides, our Father is the Judge who said it is so (Psalm 9:8; Hebrews 1:8). His Name belongs to us. We have been given the power of attorney to use it against all the power of the enemy (Mark 16:17: Luke 10:17: John 14:13:16:23).

Jesus told believers to go into all the world and use His Name to cast out devils, speak with new tongues, and lay hands on the sick and they would recover (Mark 16:18).

On the strength of this revelation Peter said to the lame man at the Gate Beautiful, “I have no silver and gold, but I give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6). Peter confidently used the power of the Name of Jesus, which caused the lame man to leap and walk.

Jesus is our covenant blood Brother, and we have been made joint heirs with Him. Romans 5:17 says, “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (King James Version). The word reign in this verse is the Greek word baliseuo, which means “to rule – king, reign.” As sons and daughters of the Most High, we have been given authority to reign, or exercise dominion, in every realm through our union with Him (2 Corinthians 6:18; Hebrews 2:11). And because we are in Him, we are powerfully underlying by Holy Spirit, forever covenant-joined to Almighty God, our Heavenly Father. we have been given His Name, His own Spirit, His nature, His WORD, His armour, and His sword. We are to be like Him (Ephesians 5:1; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 John 3:2). whatever we need and ask of our heavenly Father in the Name of Jesus, He will give it to us so that the Father may be glorified in the Son (John 14:13) and we can go into all the world and fulfil the Great Commission for the glory of His kingdom.
